I was a chief for about a year and when you have a large wound it's really the best thing you can use. - Mr. Ection , posted 02/16/07

superglue facts...
Superglue...

*was invented at Kodak during WW II
*was used to a limited extent to patch wounds in 'nam
*in a specific formulation, was approved for surgical use in 1998
*costs at least $100 a tube at the Kaiser Emergency Department -- at least in my experience :(

Some things to be prepared for if you choose to use non-medical-grade superglue as a wound-closer:

*toxicity / skin irritation ('cause among other problems, formaldehyde is a breakdown product)
*thermal burns (which can happen, presumably, if you use enough of it in a single area)

its actually rather common!
I've worked in the restaurant industry for a long time- and the use of super clue for cuts is fairly well known. Chefs tend to cut, burn, splice, dice, chop...you name it- every inch of their hands/arm etc. I've known many Chefs that keep a tube of super glue in their pockets!! Isn't it crazy how different industries have different little quirks... and then they leak out and we realize how innovative people can be! - , posted 02/08/07

Good Idea
While working at a card shop, a fellow employee suggested using super glue for paper cuts. After also working as a receptionist and at Kinko's, super glue can get you through a lot of mild cuts. Who knows if it's safe for open wounds, but it does close the cut well.

Compared to the New Skin brand's liquid bandage, it works much better and doesn't wash off. Be prepared for a terrible sting when you apply it. - Jamie Bionic , posted 02/08/07

Be careful with the super glue.
Super glue is great, that is unless you are very little and mistake the tube of super glue for a tube of bistex, ya. Happened to me when I was little, mom glued her shoe together before work, and forgot the metal tube of super glue on the table. Me, little, not knowing how to read; thought it was blistex, and decided to put some on my lips. Glued my lips together and my hand to my face. All I really remember is being in the ER and them rubbing and rubbing and rubbing my little face raw. We all laugh about it now, but, I'm sure at the time it wasn't that funny!!! - Alicia , posted 02/08/07

no worries,she'll be right
At burningman2006 I cut my knee with a knife(dont ask) Gardian(willfixit) cleaned me up and with one drop of super glue seeled the wound closed also stopping anything nasty getting in.I recomend super glue instead of stitches. If you chop your arm off go see a doctor idiot, but for small wounds SUPER GLUE,thats what it was invented for.The usa and Europe were the main supplyers of cat gut for stitches during the Second world war so the Japanese invented super glue.
This nasty cut i got today while setting up the Good Vibrations Concert on the Gold Coast.no worries, she'll be right,a drop or two of super glue - Mac , posted 02/08/07
