LOTS of awesome gigs for Raqs Gothique this month!
Friday the 19th:
is the Sugar Kitten Cabaret, supporting Breast Cancer research and featuring some of the best alternative burlesque and alternative dance artists in Melbourne. Yours truly has two slots, a goth fusion solo called "The Broken Doll(Lamented)" and a live drum and sword dance called "Sinister", featuring as special guests the Arabic drum group Bellyslap.
Saturday the 20th:
is the 11th Annual Kismet festival Gala night, showcasing the talented professional dance teachers and performers in Melbourne all on one wonderful night. Raqs Gothique presents a set by the troupe SerpentSkirt, lead by Ma'isah and showcasing a truly polished and dynamic group performance, including the candle dance "Worship" and "Diabolique" a spooky syncopated dance for your enjoyment!
Sunday the 21st:
is at Kismet again, this time on Sunday afternoon Ma'isah is performing her sword dance "Sinister" as special guest of Bellyslap.
Friday the 26th:
is the opening day of the annual WAMED (West Australian Middle Eastern Dance) festival in Perth (W.A., obviously), the largest belly dance festival in Australia! Ma'isah is presenting the first of two workshops 11am on Friday (*Technique and Core foundations of Raqs Gothique Fusion belly Dance*), followed by a solo performance at the Gala show, presenting all the excellent teachers and performers attending and presenting this year from all over the globe.
Sunday the 28th:
again at WAMED, Ma'isah is presenting her second workshop, Emotion and Expression in Gothic Fusion dance, as a continuation of the technique workshop, and focuses on taking the technique and dance moves to the next level by helping you create moods and characters for your performance. Combining choreography and drills with character work and visualization, this 1.5 hour workshop will focus your gothic fusion dance dance into a slick, spooky and polished performance!
Monday the 29th:
the last day f the WAMED festival, and the open marketplace. Raqs Gothique is not done yet - as we present PSEUDOSKIRT, the alternative dark dance fusion project. As SerpentSkirt can't make it to W.A. this year, Ma'isah has been working with a group of dancers via the internet, teaching a choreography (Diabolique) in video installments and with ONE rehearsal on the Saturday, we will be on the marketplace stage at 12:30pm, so come out and support all the wonderful dancers participating in this unique dance experience!
